Blog Sale!

Hey everyone!

It’s that time again! It’s blog sale time!

I’m culling my stash because I just have way too many polishes … it’s getting ridiculous! So take a look and see if there’s anything you’d like.

Postage will be quoted depending on how much you buy. I CAN ship internationally but only under 500g.

Please leave a comment on which polishes you’d like and it will be on a first come, first serve basis. Leave your name and email address and I’ll email you an invoice through PayPal. I will be in Adelaide until Tuesday so probably won’t be able to check this until Tuesday evening. Happy buying!

The Face Shop PP401 + Bloom Elle with Konad

When I was in Adelaide doing my courses I did mum’s nails. I chose a pink, purple and white colour combo and I think it turned out pretty well.

What do you think?

Purple Bloom

This was two coats of The Face Shop’s PP401, a lovely purple, and three coats of Bloom’s Elle, a gorgeous, sheer iridescent white on the ring fingers with stamping in Konad Princess Special Polish – Psyche Pink.

Mum said it looked like that patterned cellophane you use to wrap presents. I think that sums it up perfectly!

The Face Shop PP401 with Konad

I’m not sure why I was in the mood for a holo this past weekend. It was hot, but so overcast outside so I don’t know why I thought it was such a good idea!

I think I just wanted to try out one of The Face Shop’s holos! I bought two when I was in Adelaide last.

This is the pink one:

PP401_2ct

This is two coats of the gorgeous scattered holo. It’s such a pretty pink even in the shade. It’s funny, I spent about 15 minutes outside trying to get photos in the sun but the sun just wasn’t cooperating. I went inside and brought the washing outside to hang on the clothesline and the sun made a surprise appearance!! I’m glad there was no one else home as I dropped the basket, bolted inside the house to get my camera and polish and snapped away.

Anyway, I got some decent photos, in the end!

Here’s some more, because you know I don’t just show you one photo of a pretty holo!

PP401_2ct2

PP401_2ct3

It’s not as strong a holo effect as some of the others I have, but still pretty.  It also lasts and lasts because I’ve been wearing it a couple of days and there’s not one chip and no tip wear. Winner!

Here it is with some Konad:

PP401_2ctKonad

I’ve never used this Konad design before because I always thought it looked boring. I was so wrong. It’s gorgeous! It reminds me of fishnet stockings. And because it’s delicate, there’s still plenty of room for the holo to peek through! I’ll definitely be using it again!

Have you tried any good holos lately?

The Face Shop BK901

I had such high hopes for this polish. In the bottle it looked amazing – a black base with green and purple colour shifting glitter. It looked so, so pretty. But alas, it was not to be.

Here is The Face Shop BK901:

BK901_2ct2

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice, but it was only in certain lights that I could see a little green glitter. But I could never see the purple glitter, and certainly not both at once.

This was two coats and the formula was fine, I just wanted the pretty glitter *whines*.

I added some dotties to jazz it up a bit:

BK901_2ct

Meh. Just one of those manis I’m not very excited about. I dotted using Rokk96 Silver Screen.  It definitely livened the mani up but not enough.

I envisioned this polish to be a lot more like Ozotic Elytra but the black base was just too dark.

Ah well, better luck next time!

The Face Shop BL602

When I was in Adelaide a couple of weekends ago I did a mani for Mum. She’s been wanting one for so long but it’s so hard to find time to sit down and do nails when I’m in Adelaide. It’s always so rush, rush, rush. But I was going to a wedding around the corner from my parent’s house so I went to their place a little early and did her nails.

She was very pleased with the end result!

PurplyBlue2ct

(Sorry for the crappy photo … it wasn’t very good lighting!)

The base is The Face Shop’s BL602, a gorgeous purple with a blue flash, or is it blue with a purple flash? It’s more of a duochrome, really. It’s totally and utterly gorgeous and I can’t wait to try it on my own nails.

Mum loves Konad too so I let her pick a design. She chose the classic zebra print from M57 stamped on with Konad Princess Special Polish in silver. We both loved how it turned out Open-mouthed smile

She was so worried the colour and stamping would be too “young” for her, but I told her that that’s the great thing about Konad: you’re never too old! These colours really suited her!

Have you done manis for anyone else lately?

The Face Shop Bling Bling

The other day I painted my nails with a Face Shop polish I’ve only tried once before.

I love Face Shop polishes. They have so many gorgeous colours and if you buy 4, you get the 5th free! Open-mouthed smile Definitely going to be taking advantage of that when I go to Adelaide on the weekend!

Anyway, this is GL111, but I shall call it “Bling Bling”:

GL111_2coats

Two coats of awesomeness, perfect formula. It was very smooth so only needed one coat of Seche Vite just for staying power. It certainly didn’t need any more shine!

I did not realise just how much glitter was packed into this polish! I got quite a few comments on my nails at work – people loved the bling!

Do you have any Face Shop polishes? From what I understand, the prices and styles of bottles vary from state to state (in Adelaide they are $4.90 for the basic colours and $12.90 for ones like these with glitter. I read on another blog (Ree?) that they were only $3 in Melbourne!!! Jealous!

The Face Shop BL602 Glitter Fade FAIL!

Ah, you can’t win ‘em all.

There are days where I’m on fire with nails. Days where my manis are so, so quick and perfect.

Aaaaand then there are days like this:

BlueGlitterfade

I took this off as soon as I’d taken the photo.

This was two coats (+ touch ups) of The Face Shop BL602 (a bright blue) and then I tried to do a glitter fade with Kleancolor Chunky Holo Bluebell. I liked the effect, but it was just so thick that it wouldn’t dry. I kept smudging the crap out of it (see middle and  ring fingers, urgh) and it was all bumpy).

*sigh*

I really wanted it to work, but it just wasn’t meant to be! Sad smile

Had any fails lately???

Milani holos & The Face Shop with Konad

Last Saturday my partner’s sister and Mum flew in from Adelaide to spend the day with us for my partner’s birthday.
We had a lovely lunch and I did their nails Open-mouthed smile
Here’s what they chose:

Pinkwstars
The Face Shop PP403 (two coats) with some Konad stars stamped on in the eggplant colour Princess Special Polish.

Pinkwstars2
This turned out great, although the image on the Konad plate was a little hard to use … I had to try multiple times before the entire image transferred onto the stamp. Pretty, though.

His sister requested Milani 3D Holographic in Digital, a pretty pink which is transformed in the sunlight (which was apparently lacking in my photos).

Digital3coats2
Three coats of Digital with some cute leaves and flowers stamped on with the Konad Princess Special Polish in purple. Excuse the bit on the index finger, she accidentally bumped it right before I took the shot!!

Digital3coats
Close up of the flowers on the thumb. Pretty, huh? She loved it!
I love doing people’s nails Open-mouthed smile

The Face Shop PK105 + Sally Hansen Accent Nails

I really, really hate it how The Face Shop don’t give their polishes names. It feels so wrong Sad smile I might give this one a name … how about Raspberry Frosting?

Anyway, even though I hate that about their polishes, I love everything else about them!!! So easy to apply, this one was opaque in two coats and long lasting.

PK105_3coats

See the gorgeous light purple shimmer? It’s hard to see because I suck at taking photos and I didn’t have any sun or natural light, but it’s there!

I wore this for all of two hours before I got bored with it … so I decided to try some accent thumbnails!

PK105 CelebCity

With a stripe of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Celeb City.

Celeb City is a gorgeous metallic, glittery silver which, paired with the pink, totally reminds me of a present. Love it Open-mouthed smile So easy to do (scotch tape method) and jazzes up the whole mani!

Do you like accent nails?

The Face Shop + BYS Cracked Black

So sad, I had to chop my nails down because I got a tear in one Sad smile Ah well, better to have them all the same length.

Anyway,  here’s another first – my very first time using a crackle nail polish! I don’t actually own any crackles so I borrowed this one off my nail tech friend Amanda (thanks Manda!)

This was actually my second attempt at it because I had already attempted it right before this mani … I’d done one coat of BYS Orange Matte and then only a thin coat of BYS Cracked but only got very thin cracks … it was after Googling some tips that I found out you need to apply the crackle polish thickly to get bigger cracks! I then made the mistake of not waiting long enough for the polish to dry and the cracks to appear. Trust me, do not do this!! Be patient and wait. Because I was silly and applied my SV like normal and it all smudged and most of the cracks disappeared!!!

Anyway, my second attempt was much better.

I started off with my SV base coat and two coats of The Face Shop’s “GR502” (I hate how they don’t have names!) which is a bright neon lime green. This colour is awesome for toenails and I wore it a lot this past summer but is a bit much for my fingernails. It is super easy to apply and has full coverage in two coats though.

FaceShopGR502

Then I added a thick coat of BYS Cracked Black and waited for the magic to happen …

FaceShop Cracked

AWESOME!!!! The cracks started appearing after a minute or so and it was completely done in about 10 minutes. This time I was patient and made sure the polish was completely dry and finished cracking. Then I applied a thin coat of my Revitanail top coat, because I didn’t want to risk it smudging again. I wasn’t sure if that had happened because of SV as well or just because of my impatience!

My favourite nail would have to be my ring finger nail there. I love the huge cracks down the side and the black space in the middle.

Unfortunately this polish doesn’t wear very well. By the end of the night I already had a couple of chips and the next day had quite a few chips. It didn’t matter too much because it kind of added to the irregular-ness (is that even a word?!) of the polish.

I’m definitely going to be placing an order for some Cracked nail polishes from Fashion Addict on pay day!!

Do you love crackles too?

First frankens

Welcome to my first frankenpolish post! First, if you’re not sure what the hell a frankenpolish, check out Dr Frankenpolish’s post on Frankenpolish 101. It will tell you everything you need to know about frankening.

On Saturday I made my very first franken, a baby pink glitter.

I mixed 2/3 of a bottle of a Colour Co pearly white shimmer with 1/4 of a bottle of a The Face Shop’s bright pink and added fine white glitter. Next time I will have photos of the nail polishes I used which went into the mix instead of just the end result. But this time I got a little overeager and forgot!!

Here’s my end result:

Pink-Glitter-130611

Sorry for the crap photo. I’m learning how to take good photos of nails!! I promise I will get better!

This franken turned out pretty good. I liked the colour, but I definitely overdid it on the glitter so it was too lumpy. God it was thick, but it actually made it really easy to apply.  I put on two coats of Orly Sec n’ Dry in the hope that it would smooth it out a bit. It did, but not enough! I’ll add some clear polish to the mix and that should thin it out a bit. I didn’t name this one because, well, it’s crap, so let’s just call it No.1.

My second franken went very well! I’ve completely fallen in love with jelly polishes but find them really hard to find in South Australia, let alone the desert where I currently live in a mining town 600km from the capital city of Adelaide.  So I decided to do the next best thing and create my own.

I call this one Squashed Grape.

Purple-Jelly-130611

Pardon the messy cuticles.

I love it, love it, love it!!! It’s a gorgeous purple, almost magenta (the colours are slightly pinker in this photo because of the light) which looks so squishy and cute. My first jelly!!! It was a fairly thin consistency so I had to make sure not to overload the brush when I was applying. It’s worn pretty well, only one chip on my thumb and one bald spot on the other thumb (maybe I just have weird thumbs!)

For this one I used half a bottle of Mode XOXO purple creme polish and half a bottle of some Maybelline clear top coat I had lying around. It was so, SO easy and I see many more jellies in my future.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get my order of BYS polishes which I ordered off Fashion Addict. I’ve ordered 12 of them so stay tuned for some reviews on this great Aussie brand.
