Spectrafranken–Goblin Snot

This is the final Spectrafranken for the week! I just wish it were something a bit better than this Sad smile

This is Goblin Snot:

GoblinSnot2ct

*sigh*. I had such high hopes for this Spectrafranken, but it’s just not as holo as I’d like it to be. It may be better in the sunlight but the past few days here have been very overcast. No sun to be seen!

This is two coats. I might add some more Spectraflair but I’m not sure whether to bother …

Now it is time to send links to all my Spectrafrankens to Cathy at More Nail Polish so that she can continue putting together her mega blog post on Spectrafrankens Open-mouthed smile

Spectrafranken–Unicorn Tears

As per yesterday’s post, I am definitely not sick of holos.

I have another Spectrafranken beauty for you today. This is Unicorn Tears:

UnicornTears2ct

Two coats of deliciousness. This one is just stunning. It is just so pretty and reminds me of something you’d wear to a fairy party. Lurv Open-mouthed smile

Unfortunately this was a bit of an experiment so I don’t have an exact recipe. I was actually trying to make a pale pink holo but it didn’t work out.

I started with my 5mL bottle and poured in NYC Color’s Cotton Candy up to the widest part of the bottle at the top. Then added my usual three tiny straw spoonfuls of Spectraflair. I didn’t like what I saw so I added probably five drops of black. Still didn’t like what I saw. So I added maybe five drops of Ulta3 Gooseberry, a dark, dark purple. That’s when I got to this colour and stopped because I was in awe of the pretty, pretty purple.

I named it Unicorn Tears because it just feels and looks so mythical and magical. I’m a little obsessed with it, can you tell?

I have one more Spectrafranken to share tomorrow: Goblin Snot. Get excited, people!

Spectrafranken–Albino Smurf

Okay, so I’d like to retract my previous statement that I’m getting sick of holo polishes.

Please strike that from the record and take a look at this:

AlbinoSmurf2ct

Oh yeah, I’ve got my Spectra-mojo back. Seriously, I think I was just disappointed in the last two Spectrafrankens I tried (He’s My Lobster and The Legend of Ron Burgundy).

This is two coats of Albino Smurf. It is so freakin’ gorgeous I can’t even stand it. It’s so shiny and metallic and the perfect blue. It’s like a brighter version of 2NITE from the China Glaze OMG! Collection.

I would love to give you the recipe, but this was a bit of a mutant franken. I was trying to make Kristy’s Terrific Teal Franken but I definitely did not end up with the same colour as her. I used my 5mL bottles as usual and poured in BYS Dark Teal up to the widest part of the bottle at the top. I added my usual three tiny straw spoonfuls of Spectraflair, dropped in a ball and shake shake shaked.

Er, not exactly the colour I was looking for?! I added a boatload of Ulta3 Midnight, a black polish, and this is how it turned out. I’m still scratching my head as to how it turned out so different. Maybe I added more Spectraflair? Either way, this colour is stunning.

But I’m still left wanting Terrific Teal Sad smile

Spectrafranken–The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Yet another Spectrafranken Open-mouthed smile I only have three left to try: Albino Smurf, Unicorn Tears and Goblin Snot. So stay tuned for more of these by the end of the week.

This is The Legend of Ron Burgundy (you can thank my partner for that amazing name):

RonBurgundy2ct

Hrmmm … another one that looked better in the bottle then on my nails. And like He’s My Lobster, it took full sunlight to see the rainbow holo goodness.

This is two coats. I have to say again, I really hate the brushes in the bottles I ordered. The shape of the bottles are so cute but I will never buy these bottles again because of how irritating they are to use.

I’m going to have to source another supplier for them. The place which was recommended to me is out of stock of the bottles I like. Boo! Anyone got any ideas?

Anyway, the recipe is easy peasy. 5mL bottle, pour some NYC Color’s Professor Plum up to the widest part of the bottle at the top, add three tiny straw spoonfuls of Spectraflair and shake it all around. Could not be easier! It could have used a bit more Spectraflair.

I hope you’re enjoying the holo goodness. To be honest, I’m ready for a break from the holos. I’m craving some good old fashioned colours. Did I seriously just say that!?

Spectrafranken – He’s My Lobster

This week is Spectrafranken week! Each day I will bring you a new creation of mine using Spectraflair.

Well, I didn’t believe it but what all the bloggers say is true: it is really hard to franken a great red holo. I tried, and I failed.

This Spectrafranken looks way prettier and more holo in the bottle than on my nails:

Lobster2ct

Hrmph. It looks a lot more deep pink than red and that annoys me. Although I put the same amount of Spectraflair in the bottle as my other Spectrafrankens, I didn’t get as much of a holo effect Sad smile Booo!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still pretty, but not what I wanted.

Anyway, I just used NYC Color’s Redhead to make this Spectrafranken. I used my 5mL mini bottles again so I just filled it to the widest part of the bottle at the top and then added three tiny straw spoonfuls of Spectraflair.

Gorgeous in the bottle, as you can see in this post here, but not a true red holo and you have to be out in full sun to see the effect.

Ah well, you win some, you lose some!

Have you successfully made a gorgeous red holo? Want to share the recipe? Smile with tongue out

Spectrafranken – Bump in the Night

I’m tired, I have a headache, my teeth hurt and I’m ready to curl up in bed and spend the evening playing Angry Birds.

So let the photos do the talking:
Bump1

Bump2

Bump3

Bump4

Beautiful Spectrafranken, Bump in the Night. Two coats. A gorgeous black holo which I adore. Probably the most holo of all the ones I’ve made that I’ve tried so far. It was so easy to make: I filled up a 5mL bottle to the widest part of the bottle at the top (does that make sense?!) with NYC Colors Midnight and dropped in 3 tiny straw spoons of Spectraflair. Done!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to bed.

Spectrafranken–Janie’s Got a Gun

I’m on a mission to try all my Spectrafrankens so that I can share them with Cathy from More Nail Polish for her awesome Spectrafrankens blog post.

So far I’ve created nine Spectrafrankens, only one of which was a fail (and I’m still seeing if I can resurrect that!!!)

This is Janie’s Got a Gun, a beautiful gunmetal grey holo:

Janie2ct

Two coats. Beautiful! This one isn’t quite as holo as Blue Lagoon or Hot Stuff, but still gorgeous!

The recipe is easy peasy! I use 5mL bottles so I filled a bottle to the top of the widest part with NYC Colors Charcoal and added 3 tiny straw spoonfuls of Spectraflair. Shake, shake, shake and you have a beauty!

Here’s another photo:

Janie2ct_2

I’ve been having so much fun creating Spectrafrankens that I emailed Cathy today and ordered another 2g of Spectraflair. Embarrassed smile My name is Emma and I have a Spectraflair addiction …

Stay tuned tomorrow for, you guessed it, MORE Spectrafrankens!

More Spectrafrankens

I did some more messing around with Spectraflair and came up with some awesome Spectrafrankens. The only problem is … which to try first?!

Spectrafrankens3

The Legend of Ron Burgundy (that was my partner’s idea. Genius, huh?!), He’s my Lobster, Unicorn Tears.

Spectrafrankens4

Albino Smurf (a very light blue with a hint of teal … I asked the boy what to call this and he said “blue?” bwahahha, but then he came up with Albino Smurf and I love it!) and Goblin Snot (an olive green which I love).

So many Spectrafrankens, so little nails … I still have Bump in the Night and Janie’s Got a Gun to try, too. Help!!

Spectrafranken–Blue Lagoon

Brace yourself for some photo spam of one of my new Spectrafrankens: Blue Lagoon

BlueLagoon2ct_1

Ohhhhhh yeah.

I don’t really know what else to say. I love this! I’ve been wanting to make a blue holo for the longest time and this is perfect.

Here’s another shot of the rainbow goodness:

BlueLagoon2ct_2

Look at ittttttt!

And another (blurred to show more holo goodness):

BlueLagoon2ct_3

Oh yeah, work it baby!

More blurry holo goodness:

BlueLagoon2ct_4

*Happy sigh*. I am a happy, happy girl right now. I think I might go stand outside for a bit and look at my nails. The photos don’t even do it justice. My crappy camera refuses to believe there could be something so beautiful.

Have you made any Spectrafrankens lately?

Three gorgeous Spectrafrankens

Hello friends,

I went to the dentist after work today so I’m sitting here feeling a bit sorry for myself, eating mashed potato and waiting for the feeling to return to my face. I got one wisdom tooth out and had a filling on the other side. My poor mouth Sad smile  On the up side, that should be it for dental work for a long while Open-mouthed smile

Anyway, I was feeling inspired tonight so I decided to create some Spectrafrankens! I am really, really pleased with how they turned out.

Have a looksee:

Spectrafrankens

I have named them Bump in the Night (black), Blue Lagoon (gorgeous and what I think is very unique blue) and Janie’s Got a Gun (gunmetal grey). You like? Open-mouthed smile

Now here’s where you come in. I need you guys to help me decide which one to try first! What do you think? Will it be Bump in the Night, Blue Lagoon or Janie’s Got a Gun?

My first Spectraflair franken

I received my Spectraflair and Colour Morphing Powders from Cathy of the fabulous More Nail Polish on Tuesday.
Let me just say that talking with Cathy about ordering these was so easy, and she shipped them the very next day. I was lucky enough to score the last lot of Colour Morphing Powders, so I was beside myself!

I started with a simple Spectrafranken which I absolutely love:

HotStuff2ct
Hot, right?! I’ve called this one Hot Stuff. It was super easy to make: a whole bottle of Ulta3 Bouquet and approx. 8 tiny spoons of Spectraflair.
I love it. It is so eye catching and the rainbow is so strong.
Spectraflair is so easy to use. I’m hooked!! Even though I’m nowhere near finishing the 2 grams that I have, I want to stock up on more Smile with tongue out
It helps to start with a good base polish. This franken applied like a dream and that’s all down to Ulta3’s fabulous formula. I had minimal clean up work because it just glided on so easily.
This was two coats with a coat of Seche Vite. I had full coverage in one coat but wanted to make sure I had the maximum holo effect ;). And in case you're wondering, the Seche Vite didn’t dull the holo effect at all!

Here’s another photo to show off the gorgeous rainbow a little more:
HotStuff2ct_2
*Happy sigh*. My life is now complete. I am so excited that I can make my own holos in any colour I want. I’m dying to make a dark green holo and I want to have a go at making a red holo.

I will hopefully get my order of 5mL nail polish bottles tomorrow, so I’ll spend the weekend Spectrafrankening up a storm (in between studying, of course!)

I hope you liked my first Spectrafranken as much as I do! Excuse me now, I’m going to go stare at my nails some more.
