piCture pOlish Blogfest 2013

Welcome to piCture pOlish Blogfest 2013!
Each year piCture pOlish select some lucky bloggers to blog about their products. Everyone posts on the same day, at the same time.
This year I was lucky enough to be selected for Blogfest and the theme was nail art.
Uh oh. Nail art. Hrmm.. My version of nail art is to do some nail stamping. I knew I’d have to put my thinking cap on for this one.
Luckily there are some nail art ideas out there for us not-so-talented nail artists. I’ve put together a tutorial on some simple nail art that anyone can do – a “Nail Art for Dummies”, if you will.

Away we go!
First, select the piCture pOlish shades that you plan to use:
1
Lucky me was given Antique, Mardi Gras and Atomic.

There’s a little bit of prep work involved so make sure you do these few steps the night before you plan to do your mani.
Grab a sheet of household baking paper and paint a few coats of polish onto it. Allow it to dry overnight.
2
I wasn’t sure how much I was going to end up using so I painted quite large strips. You don’t have to wait too long in between coats for the polish to dry, just make sure you wait at least six or so hours after the final coat.

Carefully use tweezers to peel off your polish strips.
3

Grab a craft punch from somewhere like Lincraft or Spotlight. They are pretty inexpensive (mine was $7). Use it to punch the shape out of the polish.
4
Be careful as the polish can get quite brittle! You may need to lightly pull the polish away from the punch.
You can also use scissors to cut out thin strips or pinking shears to cut zig zagged strips.

You’ll end up with a lot of pretty shapes and, in my case, some sparkly strips.
5

Now we’re ready to paint the nails!
6
I used Atomic as my base colour with an accent nail of Antique. Atomic is such a pretty but subtle colour.
Antique is almost a one coater but I did two coats to be on the safe side. Atomic seemed quite sheer at first but it built up nicely with three coats.

Grab your third polish. In my case, it’s Mardi Gras, a multi coloured glitter topper.
7
I chose to go simple with this one. I simply painted two coats of Mardi Gras over Antique. It’s a subtle but glamorous look!

Use either a toothpick, a metal manicure tool or a dotting tool to pick up one of your shapes.
8
Dip whatever tool you’re using into a slow-drying top coat first so you can stick it to the nail properly.

Carefully lay it on the nail in the position you want.
9
Try not to move it around too much because you may smudge the base colour!
You can use cuticle nippers to cut off any overhanging bits.
I then did the same with the polish strips to form a diagonal line pattern.

Add a coat of top coat and you will end up with this:
10
There you have it, a pretty yet simple to do nail art manicure.

Now sit back, relax, and throw your arms out in glee!

piCture pOlish Cosmos

All I’m going to say about this polish is … how!? HOW YOU COME UP WITH SUCH AMAZING POLISH, PICTURE POLISH!?

Alright, I’m going to shut up now so you can just look:

Cosmos

Seriously.

SERIOUSLY!?

This is one of piCture pOlishes collaboration polishes with Pshiiit Boutique. Honestly, it’s one of the prettiest polishes I’ve ever seen.

This was two coats and the formula was perfect. The wear was long lasting (and believe me, I wore this baby for a lot longer than most polishes).

I just. I have no more words.

piCture pOlish, I die. Just take my money. Have it.

piCture pOlish–Violet Femme

I had high hopes for this polish. It just looked so neon in the bottle, but it just didn’t turn out that way Sad smile.

Here is piCture pOlish Violet Femme:

VioletFemme2ct

See? Not neon! Meh Sad smile This was two coats, brilliant formula (of course. I expect no less from PP!)

I found myself wishing I’d done some stamping or some form of nail art with this mani. It was just boring. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice purple, but not what I was hoping for.

Have you tried Violet Femme?

piCture pOlish–Fairy Floss

I seriously love this colour combo:

FairyFloss2ct

piCture pOlish Fairy Floss with Violet Femme dotted on top. It was so cute and girly but funky at the same time!
I used two coats of Fairy Floss and it went on beautifully. I must get some more piCture pOlishes Open-mouthed smile

Have you been dotting lately?

piCture pOlish–Nude

This is the first polish I used on myself after I left my nails naked for a week over Christmas. This is piCture pOlish Nude – I thought it was rather appropriate!!

Nude3ct
Awww, look at those lil nubs. Poor things, they were so trashed.
This is three coats of Nude. Sorry to say but this was a terrible formula. First piCture pOlish I’ve used where I haven’t been 100% impressed Sad smile It was a lovely nude colour though. I had chips the next day so it wasn’t too hard wearing either Sad smile Boo.

This was my New Years Eve colour. Exciting, right? Smile with tongue out I didn’t get time to do anything fancy and I didn’t have much of my nail stuff with me in Adelaide.

What did you do to your nails for New Years?

piCture pOlish Christmas Nails

I’ve been doing Christmassy nails this week and here are my favourites of the bunch:

Xmas1

This is two coats of piCture pOlish French White as a base and then I sponged every second finger with essie Going Incognito, a gorgeous dark green, and the other fingers with China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I was a bit disappointed with how Ruby Pumps turned out, because it was very pink when sponged over white.

Then I stamped some Chrissie trees and candy canes using Konad image plate M12. I added a rhinestone to the centre of the candy cane on my left hand and a star to the top of the Christmas tree on my right hand.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone! Hope you had a great day Smile

piCture pOlish–Jade

ANOTHER piCture pOlish, you ask? Yes, yes indeed.

This is Jade:
Jade2ct
A stunning pastel green with a subtle microshimmer through it. I love it! This is two coats and quite possibly the easiest polish I have ever applied. Honestly, it was a dream. I had barely any clean up to do.

I usually stamp over plain colours but I didn’t want to cover this beauty. <3 A new favourite!

piCture pOlish–Coral Reef

How I love piCture pOlishes. I know, I know, I’ve said it so many times before. But honestly, what’s not to love?! Great formulas, awesome colours, cute packaging, AUSSIE!!!

This is Coral Reef:

CoralReef2ct

Two coats. Beautiful formula, so creamy.

I wasn’t sure this colour would suit me but I absolutely loved it! It was so bright and summery. You can’t help but feel happy when you look at such a lovely shade.

Do you ever feel like there are so many amazing polishes out there and so little time/fingernails?!

piCture pOlish Bliss with Violet Femme

Urgh. Fail, fail, fail. I’ve had a few fail manis lately and I hate it!!! This is another one!

It all started off well, with piCture pOlish Bliss:

Bliss2ct

This was two coats. Gorgeous formula, gorgeous colour. This was such a light lilac that it was almost white!

So, I bought some craft scissors off eBay, planning on using them to cut pretty designs in tape to do tape manis. I got them and realise that they would not cut through any kind of tape!

So I decided to cut paper and just wrap it around my finger. Here was the outcome:

Bliss2ctVioletFemme

Ewwwwwww.. The dark purple is piCture pOlish Violet Femme. This was meant to be the wavy craft scissors design. *Sigh*.

It turned out to be a lot harder than I expected to keep the paper tight around my nail without moving it and smudging the polish. It just did not work!

And then I had the bright idea (AFTER I did the mani) to use paper labels. Hahaha. So guess what I’ll be doing next time!! Oh well, better late than never Smile with tongue out

Have you done any fail manis lately?

piCture pOlish Flirt with Konad

Ahhh, another delicious piCture pOlish. Although this gorgeous pink is a lot like many others in my collection, I still loved it to bits.
There’s nothing girlier than a good pink!

Here is Flirt:

Flirt2ct

Prettyyyy! This is two coats. Formula was a dream, like all the piCture pOlishes I’ve tried, and it wore so, so well.

I couldn’t leave it alone so I added some stamping:

Flirt2ctKonad

I love it! So cute! I can’t remember what plate this was but I stamped it using my new Konad Special Polish in Pastel Pink. I’m loving these pastel stamping polishes. Finally some colours to stamp on top of darker colours!

This is my third piCture pOlish and I’m starting to get a little infatuated with them Smile with tongue out You just can’t go wrong!

piCture pOlish Twinkle with Bundle Monster cheetah print

This polish is one of those polishes which comes out totally different than you expect it to. Luckily, it was in a good way.
This is one of the piCture pOlish nail polishes I won in Julia’s giveaway.
In the bottle it’s a very, very light lilac with a subtle sparkle through it. Now here it is on the nail:

Twinkle2ct
You can’t tell me that’s lilac! To me, it looks pink. A beautiful, dainty pink. Unfortunately the beautiful sparkle doesn’t translate onto the nail, but it’s still amazing.
Silly me forgot to take a photo of the polish before I stamped all over it, but this is two coats stamped with Konad Princess Special Polish in White using the Bundle Monster plate BM-221.
The formula was pretty good. It was a little thick at times, but nothing unmanageable. I’m really starting to become obsessed with these piCture pOlishes. They are Aussie and affordable (by Aussie standards. Nail-a-holics overseas may think $9.95 is a bit rich for a polish but it’s really not when you consider how much OPI costs over here).

I’m completely in love with the square bottles and the font they use on their labels. It just looks really well put together. The only thing that truly irritates me about these polishes is the little subheading above the name of the polish on the label.
Have a look at the photo below and tell me what’s wrong with this picture:

PicturePolish
If you haven’t noticed, it’s probably because you’re not a total English and grammar perfectionist like I am.
The label on Flirt clearly says “warning you may get loads of attention!”
Argh. There should be a colon in there somewhere, I’m sure of it.
Okay, so they’re not all like this but there are a few. And it annoys me. Because if I were to go and spent a tonne of cash on my own business creating nail polishes, I would be making sure everything is perfect before selling them to the public.

Alright, I’m being a bit harsh. I think it’s the journalist in me coming out to play. I’m generally a total pain in the butt when it comes to spelling and grammar because if I notice something wrong I will point and laugh at it. My bad.

Anyway, back to the awesome things about piCture pOlish! Their colour selection is to die for!! When I won Julia’s giveaway, I spent so long trawling through their website trying to narrow down my huge wish list to just three polishes. Let me tell you, it was incredibly hard to pick just three beauties. I chose Twinkle, Marine and Flirt (as you can see above) and I am so happy with my choices. They are such gorgeous summer shades.

Do you have any piCture pOlishes?
